說真的今年秋季黃金檔影集並沒有特別出色的作品，因此這部Showtime有線電影頻道自製並獲媒體好評的影集格外令人期待。
Showtime頻道影集一向善以深入探討小眾議題而引起大眾共鳴，如Queer as folk的男同志、The L Word的女同志、Weeds的販毒單親媽媽，Dexter則是連續殺人狂。
Jeff Lindsay知名小說 "Darkly Dreaming Dexter"改編的Dexter由SFU裡弟弟David(Michael C. Hall)主演他從小就在寄養家庭長大，養父是一名警探(James Remar所飾--SATC裡Samantha的前男友Richard)。Dexter有一份極正常的工作--邁阿密警局鑑事科血液噴漬專家，只是這位理應跟MIA老何同事的Cath邁阿密版，晚上有個兼差：連續殺人狂。Dexter從小就有虐殺小動物習慣，也就是變態殺人魔的徵兆之一，老爸早就看出他遲早會無法控制自己的胃口開始殺人，也知道自己無法改變他的命運，乾脆跟他說--既然你無法控制自己殺人的衝動，這世界上有很多壞人不值得活，警察也沒有辦法將其一網打盡，那老爸就傳授你一些偵探技巧，讓你去找到這些人，完事後並湮滅所有證據吧。Dexter的對象多是犯案累累卻逍遙法外的壞人，比如性侵殺害小男孩的神職人員、辣手摧花的色情網站主持人、以及酒駕致死累犯。他一個個蒐證跟蹤，加以殺害後分屍滅跡，他還收集每個壞人的血液樣本放在玻片上仔細收藏。Dexter自認在兩種身分之間相互協調，也極力製造著正常人的形象，只是他的小秘密還是被發現了：他所偵辦的另一位逍遙法外的變態殺人狂到他家留下線索，Dexter對這樣的邀約感到好奇，並暗自讚嘆對方的巧妙技藝而惺惺相惜。
Dexter自稱內心空虛，完全沒有七情六慾，但是為了融入正常社會，又以關愛親切的態度與身邊的人相處，所以親如妹妹與女友，都絲毫不知他的秘密身分，警局女上司還讚嘆他的辦案技巧而愛慕不已。女友曾是前夫長期性侵對象，尚無法走出陰影與人有親密關係，正合乎對性愛完全沒有興趣的Dexter之要求，他還非常照顧女友的兩名子女，一副完美男友形象。
Dexter這位變態卻又惹人憐愛的角色，經由Michael C. Hall精準內斂又泰然自若的詮釋，讓被刑案鑑識類影集長期轟炸的觀眾來說，是一個非常獨特又清新的選擇。Michael C. Hall清晰的咬字與舞台劇水準的演出，將Dexter在掩飾內心黑暗想法的無奈，還有對偵辦對象不自主的景仰，經由幽默聰明的對話以及Dexter不時的譏諷旁白，讓人對此劇愛不釋手外加欲罷不能。Showtime網站目前可觀賞前兩集完整內容(不確定是否只限北美地區觀眾)，並已簽約12集。

*Dexter用血跡照片當辦公室牆壁裝飾，其他同事都不覺得奇怪，只有一位看穿他的心理，常常當面叫他噁心變態，他也不以為然。

*Dexter妹妹在警局風化科長期臥底當街頭應召女，當她被調去刑事組之後，一起站街角的應召女問她當警察跟當應召女哪個好，還問及她的上司：「你老闆是不是不給加班費又常常數落你？」她點頭，「那她就是你的皮條客囉！」
